8 Good things to have happened in 2020
1. Congo became Ebola free
The Democratic Republic of the Congo had been grappling with one of worst Ebola epidemic in the recorded history. Fortunately, on 18 Nov 2020, the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared the end of Ebola virus outbreak in the country. On 6th Oct 2020, the last Ebola patient tested negative for the second time, leaving no active Ebola cases in DRC. Congo worked hard to tackle this deadly disease and finally got the fruit.

4. USA got it's first women vice president
As Donald Trump lost the US elections 2020, Kamala Harris became the first women vice president of United states. A country like United States should have got a women, not only vice president, but president, way earlier than this. But, as they say, better late than never. Well, we don't know what the new United states government would be like. But one thing is for sure, it's definitely going to be better for environment as the former president deliberately ceased the United States' presence from 2015 Paris Agreement, which aims to tackle climate change. United states is the largest emitter of greenhouse gasses, so it has to be a part of it. Now after the election results, the lovers of this planet have some hopes.
5. Carbon emissions fell sharply
Covid19 pandemic was the biggest and worst thing of year 2020. It took lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Though this global pandemic locked more than half of world's population in their homes, but all that gave nature some time to heal itself a bit. With no or very less vehicles plying on the roads, a few flights and temporary halt on construction work around the globe, the consumption of fuel took a nosedive. The cities like New Delhi, Dhakka, Ulaanbaatar and Kabul took a glimpse of clear blue sky in a long time. Himalayas became visible from hundreds of kilometers away.

6. Covid vaccine arrived
After months of hard work, the Covid19 vaccines finally arrived before the end of 2020. Some countries have already started giving vaccine shots by Moderna, Pfizer and some other labs. Many vaccines are still under process of development and will be shortly out. We can look forward to a world immune to this deadly and highly infectious disease.
7. World got new definition of 'Heroes'
2020 was a tough time for the whole world. It was even tougher for those who were indoors in quarantine, for those who lost their family members and for those who tried their best to save every single life. Doctors, healthcare workers, sanitation workers, police forces and every single person who risked their own life everyday to ensure that rest of us could work comfortably from home, have personified the word 'Hero'.
8. Africa declared free from wild Polio
Polio is a highly infectious disease which attacks the nervous system - causing paralysis especially in children. Among remote areas of Africa, Polio was a major disease in the children. But on August 25, 2020 WHO certified Africa as polio-free region. The polio eradication programme in Africa successfully eradicated this dreaded disease and also provided a broader healthcare services in the remote area of the continent.
